My Information

I am a middle school math teacher in Round Rock, Texas. I just finished my second year of teaching, which was SO MUCH BETTER than my first! I used to be a software engineer, and then stayed home with my two daughters for a while. My husband is a ASIC design consultant who mostly works from home. We have 3 dogs and 4 cats. Here is Carmela, one of our cats:

Your blog is very visually appealing … but maybe that is because I have a bowl-sitting cat of my own. My photography isn’t as good as yours but next week I’ll use a picture of my velvet squashed into a bowl, box or sink.

I too came to teaching after years in the “real world”. On a personal level, do you find like some people are condescending about teachers? It is truly the most difficult, dynamic and rigorous job I have ever held.

I agree. The second year of teaching is sooo much better than the first. Sorry, English teachers (although I am one myself, at times) I had to stress the ’so.’ This past year was my second year teaching as well. I don’t know if it was the different school district or different subject, but I enjoyed it a lot more. I went from teaching 9th grade English and Pre-Ap English to 7-8th grade Multimedia, Yearbook and Newspaper.
How is it being a new teacher but not a young new teacher? Sometimes it seems like some students don’t have as much respect for young/young looking teachers. I also feel like Susan, it seems like the “real world” takes our job for granted. I mean if it wasn’t for teachers/educators/training those people wouldn’t be where they are today. You would think that they would cut us some slack and help us out.

I also like the black and white photos. Very nice. What kind of camera are you using? And who are your subjects?
